And now for a change of pace…

Portland, ME

Detroit, I love you, be back soon!

Motor City In ustrial Park image

I visited family over the holidays in Detroit this last December. But, I really wish I could have fit in another drive through the city to get some fresh pictures.

Last time I was there for such a purpose was with the guys behind the Propergander series and Exit Enterprises. On that visit, I ended up with the photograph above and quite a few more. The barren wasteland of a city seems to have new photo opportunities around every corner and many interesting projects that you might not expect, like Tigrrrrific Orange Houses and The Heidelberg Project, just to name a few.

Have a farm? Here’s an idea…

I don’t remember ever reading or hearing about this while I was living in Baltimore, but this seems to be something that a lot of mid-sized cities (like Madison, WI or Ann Arbor, MI) with a college campus, a centralized downtown and a plethora of farms doing the organic or sustainable thing within shouting distance of the city, could pull off. I could see a business model in it where a stable on the edge of town could provide the amenities needed for multiple urban horses to live in town. Or, to take it a step in a different direction, maybe pull the carts with a bicycle or scooter and just reduce the size of the cart as needed and have more of them.
